The former Foggia manager is close to cleaning out his office with Zamparini eyeing a return to the bench for Davide Ballardini.
De Zerbismo does not look like it is the cure for Palermo’s ongoing woes. As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, President Maurizio Zamparini is dangling the axe over Roberto De Zerbi’s tenure as the Rosanero bench boss, two months after hiring him to replace the exiting Davide Ballardini. Since his arrival, Palermo have only secured one win in twelve games, which was a 1-0 victory over Atalanta towards the tail end of September. To make matters worse, their slide down the table as been happening at break-neck speed where they have lost 7th straight including today’s 1-0 defeat to Lazio.
De Zerbi turned Lega Pro side Foggia into one of the most interesting squads to watch last season, bringing them at the doorstep of promotion to Serie B. Sadly, he has been unsuccessful at applying the same methods to a Palermo squad in desperate need of a turnaround. As De Zerbi goes back to the drawing board once more, it will be followed by the added stress of not knowing if he will still have a job by the end of the week. TMW also reports that Zamparini is scheduled to meet with Davide Ballardini tomorrow for a return to the Renzo Barbera. Should Ballardini sign on the dotted line for yet another stint on the bench, it would likely be seen as the usual band-aid to cover on the wound until a more long-term solution is found.
