Napoli striker Duvan Zapata scored once and set up Marek Hamsik for the team’s second goal in their 2-0 home win over Sassuolo on Monday night.
“We knew the importance of this game, I’m happy for the victory and for the three points,” said Zapata after the game to Sky Sport journalists. “Our objective is to aim for second place in the league, but we will only reach it if we continue on like this. I like to score for my team. I’m happy at Napoli, I know my role and when Benitez calls me to action I’m always ready.”
Napoli’s victory brought them to within three points of a faltering Roma for second place in Serie A and automatic Champions League qualification. With Roma still looking shaky and Napoli gathering momentum, a battle for silver may be in the works for the final few months of the season.
